Gateshead International Stadium has a regional, national and international reputation for hosting some of the UK's top sporting events and will play host to the Athletics, Badminton and Judo competitions for the 2010 North East England UK School Games.

Fully certified by the Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF) Gateshead International Stadium provides superb training facilities including a state of the art training hall and support system for high performance athletes with community based sports facilities and a broad range of sport related education and training programmes available for talented athletes, sports clubs and the local community.

Gateshead International Stadium is home to The English Institute of Sport and Gateshead College Academy for Sport. It is also included in the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Pre-Games Training Guides for a number of sports including athletics, judo, boxing and weightlifting.
