UK School Games North East 2010, Cultural Programme:

In the North East, we often talk of welcomes - the great North East welcome. As part of the UK School Games, in addition to the sporting events we are also developing a cultural programme which welcomes participants and visitors to the UK School Games, as well as raising local awareness of the events. This cultural programme will run alongside the elite sporting competition to create a full cultural experience that meets the aspirations of the games. The programme is being developed in partnership with cultural agencies and local authority partners across Tyne and Wear, and will create a memorable celebratory experience for athletes and audiences alike.

The cultural programme is also an opportunity to develop a number of creative outdoor projects involving young people, linking to the region's plans for London 2012 and other major outdoor celebrations across NewcastleGateshead and Sunderland, strengthening existing relationships between culture and sport to result in a meaningful legacy for the North East for years to come.
