UK School Games athlete Shaunna Thompson of Lancashire, Manchester has been commended by Olympic gold and silver medallist Darren Campbell, for her effort in the Great Manchester 150m Run.
Sixteen year old Thompson took on the inaugural street race in the women's division. Jamaican sprinter Usain 'Lightning' Bolt, currently 'the world's fastest man', was also at the event.
"I'm very proud to see a Shaunna giving it her all, running alongside the world's top competitors," said Campbell, the UK School Games Ambassador.
"Shaunna sets an excellent example for all aspiring athletes in the UK, showing them that it's all about getting involved in local sports events," he said.
Thompson established her rising star status winning silver in the 2007 UK School Games in the 200 meter dash, and going on to win gold in 2008.
