SAINSBURY'S UK SCHOOL GAMES PRESENTS...THE COMPETITORS

By Sainsbury's UK School Games
Following on from the athlete profiling series we launched last week, we bring you a Scottish cyclist hoping to make an impact at this year's Sainsbury's UK School Games. Over the next week and a half we will profile an athlete from every sport.
Thirteen year old, Flora Gillies, is from Peebles in the Scottish Borders and will be competing for Scotland in the cycling events being held at Newcastle Leazes Park and Neilson Road in Gateshead, starting on Friday 3 September.

Flora came seventh in the NW Youth Tour earlier this year and has also competed in the Tour of Mayo 2009 and Isle of Man Tour 2010. Not only does she excel in cycling but Flora is also a member of the Scottish Schools Netball S2 Champion Team 2010 and the winning team in the Edinburgh League U14s in netball.

Flora, who attends Peebles High School, will have a familiar face around the athlete's village as her older brother Gus Gillies is also competing in the boy's cycling events at the Sainsbury's UK School Games this year so there is sure to be some sibling competition at the events.

Cycling forms one of the ten sports being competed for at the Sainsbury's UK School Games 2010. In 2009 it was a track event but 2010 sees the first road and criterium racing events at the Games.
