It's official, 2012 is here and so is the new and improved School Games website!
Sainsbury's 2012 School Games

Along with seven other Champion Ambassadors, fencer, Soji, attended a tour of the Olympic site with former Minister of Sport, Richard Caborn. It was a unique opportunity to see how the building of the site is coming along in preparation for 2012 and also proved an inspiring trip for Soji.
"It's a really exciting opportunity for me because I've never actually seen the Olympic site before so it's a whole new experience. Who knows, hopefully I might be competing here one day in the future."
Soji Aiyenuro was selected because of his outstanding achievements in the 2009 UK School Games. He won gold in the boy's Sabre fencing event in Wales last year and this year will be defending his title in North East England at the competition from the 2- 5 September.
Soji is enjoying being a Champion Ambassador, especially thanks to the once in a lifetime experience at the Olympic site but also has some words of wisdom for the new competitors this year.
"I am really proud to be a Champion Ambassador; it's nice to be recognised for my achievements. Going back this year as a Champion to defend a title brings quite a lot of pressure but hopefully I can do the same as last year and win.
"The experience of the Games is quite a nerve-racking one as the scale of the event is really huge but it's also really fun as well. I would say to this year's athletes to just go out there and enjoy the experience."
The Sainsbury's UK School Games will see 1600 elite school aged athletes descend on the North East from the 2-5 September 2010 to compete across ten different sports.
