Things to do
The rich heritage of Sheffield's past can be seen in lots of places. As you walk around the city, look up at some of the architecture and you'll see carvings and friezes that reflect our industries.

Take a look at Museums Sheffield: Millennium Gallery and you'll find the Metalwork Gallery with hundred's of pieces of silver and metalwork made in Sheffield, and inspired by Sheffield makers. The Metal Work Gallery is one of four on the site so there's lots more to be explored.

Stroll down to Kelham Island Museum and you'll find a unique story of Sheffield's industries and social history. You'll also find the only working 12,000hp steam powered engine in the world!

You'll come across contemporary and classic art in Museums Sheffield: Graves Gallery where the City's collection of art from the 16th to the 21st Century is lavishly displayed.

Sheffield is one of the greenest cities in England - there are more than 2million trees in the city, more than 170 woodlands and more than 80 parks. Where ever you are in the city, you're only a few minutes away from green fields and wide open spaces. Even in the city centre, you'll find the Peace Gardens - an oasis of lawns and water features, and the Winter Garden, our iconic temperate glasshouse, the largest in any European city centre and big enough to put 5,000 domestic greenhouses inside!

Eating Out
As a major city, you'd expect to find a great selection of cafes and restaurants - you won't be disappointed. Where ever you are in Sheffield, you'll find modern cafes and bars serving everything from light refreshments to full meals, from breakfast through to dinner. If you fancy some 'fine dining' then there's no shortage of established, award winning, restaurants where local produce dictates what appears on the menu, and a great customer experience is the number one priority of the staff. Take a stroll through Sheffield City Centre and you'll find an amazing selection of places to eat, or head for London Road or Ecclesall Road areas and you'll be able to take a world tour - in culinary terms at least - amongst restaurants with menus from every continent.

Theatre and entertainment
Sheffield's Crucible Theatre is most famous as the 'home of Snooker' - the World Championships has been played there every year since 1977. In fact, the Sheffield Theatre's complex - The Crucible, Studio and Lyceum - is the second largest theatre complex outside of London's South Bank. You'll find an exciting programme of theatre productions throughout the year, along with the Music in the Round chamber music festival.

The City Hall in the centre of Sheffield was opened in 1932 and today is one of the city's premier live music venues (as well as conference venue). Some of the most famous names in entertainment have appeared on the City Hall stage and today, it remains a focal point in Sheffield's entertainment calendar.

The Motorpoint Arena, to the east of Sheffield city centre is the largest venue in Sheffield (12,000 seats) and hosts a wide programme of big-name acts.

Throughout the city you'll find venues with live entertainment - folk music, comedy, local names and international acts. The calendar of 'what's on' means you'll find something on, every night of the week.

To the east of Sheffield City Centre, and adjacent to the Motorpoint Arena, you'll find 'Valley Centertainment'. With eight restaurants, a multi-screen cinema with all the latest releases, Hollywood Bowl with 26 lanes of ten-pin bowling and the region's biggest indoor children's play area you'll find lots to choose from for all the family.

Shopping
Our city centre is full of High Street shops with a great mix of independent designer boutiques if you're looking for something different. Around the Devonshire Quarter, you can just stroll amongst the independent shops that add to the eclectic mix of this area. If you want to mix with the 'see and be seen' crowd, take a walk along Ecclesall Road. This is a perfect area to enjoy all that designer gear offers, along with lots of opportunities to stop for a coffee or a cola, or what ever you choose, and watch the world go by.

If you're intent on some serious shopping, then there's no better place to head for the Meadowhall. Easy to get to by tram, there are more than 280 shops waiting for you to browse around. The Oasis area offers quick stop refreshments or a la carte meals and if your feet are weary, there's even a new treatment service where you can have a quick pedicure provided by Garra Rufa fish… an ancient Turkish treatment that does more than tickle your toes.
