VOICES OF THE GAMES
4 September 2010, 8:40 pm
By Elle Black aged 13
There are so many people involved in getting the Sainsbury's UK School Games running and functioning as a major multi-sport event. In addition to the athletes, there are also a significant number of young people playing a central role as volunteers, technical officials and even journalists! For the first time, budding young sport commentators and announcers will also be able to show off their skills at the event.
One of them is 14-year-old Jonathan Baines, who is from Holyspring and currently attends Hockergate School. His role in the Games is as an announcer, relaying important messages over the loud speaker in order to manage the competitions smoothly.

To succeed in his role he attended a one-day workshop before the event. In the future he would like to go to college and then on to university. Jonathon says the best think about being a volunteer is being able to learn about a new sport and having the pleasure of watching the Games. He thought it would be a good opportunity and has enjoyed every minute of the experience.
