It is one week today until the Games officially commence. To mark the lead up to the events we are looking at some of the competing athletes at this year's Sainsbury's UK School Games. Today we introduce you to gymnastics hopeful, Jay Thompson.
14 year old, Jay Thompson from Paignton in Devon has been doing gymnastics for seven years and will be competing at the Sainsbury's UK School Games for the second time after winning the parallel bars and pommel horse at last year's events. Jay will be competing in the gymnastics events which are being held at the refurbished Gateshead Leisure Centre where competition begins on Saturday 4 September at 11:25am.

For the last six years Jay has been the British Elite Grade 3 Champion and can also add winner of the Rheintal Cup to his list of achievements. Another notable accomplishment for Jay is being nominated for the BBC's Young Sportsman of the Year in 2009, being pipped to the post by none other than talented diver, Tom Daley.

Jay is certainly a medal contender at this year's Games in the gymnastics events which is one of the ten sports being competed for at the Sainsbury's UK School Games 2010.
